In the last article, we talked about the dangers of comparison because it can lead to a mindset of constant judgment. We discussed that when kids see themselves as “better than” others, it creates arrogance and entitlement and can lead to conceitedness, bullying, and discrimination. We also discussed that when kids see themselves as “less than” it erodes self-esteem as they enter a world of self-criticism and self-doubt.
It is critical that we teach our kids how to honor their own uniqueness, gifts, and talents.
Differences are what make them unique. Whether it’s their personality, interests, or talents, their unique skills are a gift and an opportunity to contribute to the world. The world needs us all to thrive.
